Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Monday informed the apex court that it has been ascertained that there are 579 persons having 867 properties in the United Arab Emirates instead of earlier FIA's figures of 895 persons own 1,365 properties in the UAE. Member FBR (Inland Revenue - Operations) Seema Shakil told the court that they have confirmed the figures through computerised national identity cards (CNICs). She said the court had directed them to file progress reports every month.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, was hearing a suo motu case on slackness in progress of the pending inquiries relating to fake bank accounts.

She told the court that 316 persons out of 579 have availed amnesty schemes introduced by the federal government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz last year. She submitted that the property of Aleema Khan, a sister of Prime Minister Imran, has been declared in the amnesty scheme. The Chief Justice showed dissatisfaction over the Board's slow performance.

The Chief Justice also asked for an estimated amount to be recovered, to which the FBR official said the Board expects to recover around Rs 1 billion. Seema Shakil informed the bench that Rs 270 million has been recovered so far and Rs 76.8 million will have to be recovered.

The member audit FBR informed the court that they have issued notices to people who have submitted affidavits but are not appearing before the FBR authorities as they are living abroad.

The Chief Justice asked him to attach their properties. The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) informed the bench that 125 people have not appeared before it. The Chief Justice asked, "You are experts and have to resolve the matter in days. If the known properties are attached then some amount would come to the national kitty." The FBR was directed to file monthly progress reports continuously.
