Supreme Court's monitoring bench on Saturday ordered continuation of removal of encroachments in the city and demolition of cinema at Rashid Minhas Road on military land. At its Karachi Registry, the SC bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed also ordered continuation of anti-encroachment operation for revival of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR).

The SC bench said that all encroachments at the parks in Karachi must be cleared within a week. It also directed to clear the footpaths making it clear that charity organisations can't operate on footpaths.

The apex court monitoring bench directed that track of the KCR should be cleared by removing encroachments so that the KCR can be made functional. The municipal commissioner informed the court that the KMC had removed 90% of the encroachments.

The SC also ordered the reversal of Karachi Master Plan Department from the control of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).

Senior officials of relevant departments, including Sindh government, Railways department, KMC, SBCA, the military attended the meeting.

The bench also directed that all parking on Rashid Minhas Road be removed. Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that illegal constructions would not be allowed anywhere in the city.

The SC bench ordered demolition of a cinema, built on military land at Rashid Minhas Road, immediately, and also the several parking areas of restaurants on the road. Tables and chairs set up on the footpaths and in service lanes should also be removed, immediately, SC ordered. Parking areas in front of buildings on Korangi Road would also be removed while the SC bench also ordered demolition of walls built in front of a Mall on Sea View Road in Clifton. "Were these walls constructed to create a separate route for certain people?" asked Justice Gulzar.

The Sindh government complained that other departments such as KMC and institutions under its control aren't cooperating. It also mentioned police's non-cooperation. The court ordered all those relevant departments to cooperate with the Sindh government, in this regard.
