Mercury plunged to minus 15 degrees Celsius in Skardu in the last 24 hours, as the Met Office on Monday forecast mainly cold, dry and partly cloudy weather for the most parts of the country on Tuesday.

Temperature also dropped in Astore and Kalam to minus 12 degrees Celsius, each, Gupis minus 8, Bagrote and Hunza minus 7, each, Malamjabba, Parachinar, Dir, Quetta and Kalat minus 5, each, Murree and Rawalakot minus 4, each, Chitral, Gilgit, Kakul and Drosh minus 3, each, Lower Dir minus 2, Mirkhani, Dalbandin, Garhidupatta, Balakot and Risalpur minus 1, each.

In the next 24 hours cold weather is expected in the most parts of country. A light rain with snowfall is expected in Malakand Division, besides Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Fog is likely to grip areas of Punjab, upper Sindh and Peshawar Division during night and morning hours on Tuesday. "Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave is likely to affect northern areas of the country on Tuesday," it said.
