Firmness prevailed on the money market on Saturday as the rupee sustained present levels against the dollar in the process of trading activity, dealers said. The rupee was unchanged in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.80 and Rs 139.20 respectively, they said. The rupee, however, recovered 35 paisas versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 157.25 and Rs 159.05 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: In final US trade, the US dollar retreated against the euro on Friday, giving up all the gains logged after a robust US jobs report, following comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell that the US central bank will be sensitive to the downside risks the market is pricing in.

The euro was 0.09 percent higher at $1.1401 against the greenback. Earlier in the day, the euro zone single currency fell as low as $1.1347 against the dollar after the dollar rose following data that showed US employers hired the most workers in 10 months in December while boosting wages.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee-dollar parity stayed unchanged amid sluggish trend in the local currency market on Saturday.

According to currency dealers, the greenback resumed trading on its overnight closing of Rs 138.70 and Rs 139.60 as its buying and selling rate, respectively. It did not observe any change in its demand and supply situation as it firmly sustained its opening trend prevailed till close of trading, they added.

Moreover, the local currency maintained declining trend for the second consecutive day versus the pound sterling. Consequently, the pound's buying and selling rates further improved from Friday's closing of Rs 174.50 and Rs 176.00 to Rs 175.50 and Rs 176.50 respectively, they said.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar further gained 5 paisas against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Saturday.

The dollar opened at Rs 138.90 (buying) and Rs 139 (selling) against last rate of Rs 138.85 (buying) and Rs 138.95 (selling). It closed at Rs 138.90 (buying) and Rs 139 (selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs 67,200 (selling) and Rs 67,000 (buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
