Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) wheat futures firmed on Monday on expectations for rising US export demand as prices for shipments from the Black Sea region have risen in recent weeks, traders said. CBOT March soft red winter wheat settled up 5-1/4 cents at $5.35-1/4 per bushel.

K.C. March hard red winter wheat ended up 3-3/4 cents Friday at $5.22 a bushel and MGEX March spring wheat rose 1-1/4 cents at $5.85-1/4. The market was underpinned by signs of rising global prices and an improving US wheat export pace.

The US Department of Agriculture said 682,162 tonnes of wheat were inspected for export last week, above trade expectations for 350,000 to 550,000 tonnes. Russian wheat export prices rose sharply last week and the world's largest wheat exporter has been reducing the pace of its exports in recent weeks.
