Pakistan-Afghanistan border fencing will be completed by December 2019, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Saturday. Pakistan Army's spokesperson and ISPR Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor said that the Armed Forces are aiming at speedy completion of the project areas, adding that the full project will be completed by the end of 2019. He said that the project, once completed, will effectively benefit people of the both countries while restricting terrorists.

Work on 802 kilometers out of 1,200 km border has been done while work on 233 out of 843 forts has been completed, he said in a tweet, whereas the total length of the fenced border will be 2,611kms.

The military-led construction effort went into action last year. The pair of nine-foot wire fences, with a six-foot gap and topped with barbed wire runs along rugged terrain and snow-capped mountains as high as 12,000 feet.

While talking to Business Recorder, a military official said that Pakistan Army is eager to eliminate terrorism factors while securing the western border. He said the project is heading towards its completion, overcoming all the hurdlers because it is vital for the security of Pakistan and it will also end the blame game. Officials estimate the project will cost over $550 million.
