Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has received 903 000 returns approximately till November 26, 2018. This was stated in a letter sent by Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) to the board, requesting for the extension of the date of e-filing of income tax returns, statements and wealth statements for the tax year 2018 till December 15, 2018.

It said that although the government of Pakistan had provided reasonable time to the taxpayers to file their return by November 30, 2018; 903 000 returns approximately have so far been filed till 26-11-2018. The letter further stated that last year between November 27 and December 15 2017, approximately 180,800 income tax returns were filed and the PTBA was expecting the number would increase to approximately 300,000 during the aforesaid period of current year, which would be at least 11% more as compared to the last year.

Keeping in view the above factual position, PTBA therefore requested the FBR to extend the date for filing of tax returns and statements under section 118 of the Ordinance till December 15, 2018 in order to maximize the number of filers and to facilitate the existing taxpayers of the country.
