A female student who jumped out of a moving cab on Karachi's Shahrah-e-Faisal told media that she felt unsafe when driver went on a different route and even refused to take the ride-sharing firm's telephone calls upon her request. "He kept throwing a creepy smile at me but I ignored then he not only took a wrong U-turn but when I reported to the ride-sharing firm and the firm telephoned him, he didn't attend their calls," the girl told media. The varsity student added that she had no option but to jump outside the car for "I can compromise on anything but not on my honour".

She, however, said that she has opted out of registering First Information Report (FIR) on her behalf for she does not want to prolong the matter. The girl said that she booked a ride from her university and had to jump out of the cab fearing a sexual assault. Both the girl and the driver were taken to Saddar police station for interrogation.

The driver's viewpoint The driver, in his statement to police, said that he is being defamed for no reason as the online cab service he works for has all his data and he has no criminal record. "I am a family man and only changed the route when the girl changed her booking details," the driver told the police.

The driver maintained that he could have fled after the girl jumped out of the car. Case Registered Under Section 352 DIG South Javed Odho told a private television channel that the police is investigating the case from all angles and the record of the ride booked through an online service has been analysed. A case has been registered under Section 352 of Pakistan Penal Code against the driver.
