The collaboration among Information Technology University (ITU) the Punjab, Information Technology Board (PITB) and Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) effectively resolving the problems through induction of technological interventions. This was stated by the founding Vice Chancellor of ITU and the Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif during a handing over of 25 smart ponding cones ceremony, developed for WASA here today.

Dr. Umar Saif said that ITU & PITB have started rolling out a series of systems for WASA to remotely monitor ponding of rain water and an in-house SCADA system for automatically managing water pumping and disposal stations. Through these systems, WASA would save over Rs 60 crore per year due to optimized management of water and sanitation system, he added.

He further stated that ITU's developed innovative system for WASA to digitally monitor in real time the rain and water ponding tracks by installing a low cost in-house developed sensor devise to be installed at tube wells and disposal stations at 25 different locations of Lahore would make them intelligent, effective and economically efficient by reducing electricity charges of up to twenty percent per annum while WASA and ITU shall cooperate and collaborate for the research and development activities with a prime focus on design and development of hardware and software units, he added.

The Managing Director, WASA, LDA Syed Zahid Aziz said that ITU's technological interventions for online ponding areas would ensure effectiveness and establish credibility that would modernize WASA and such applications should be replicated by other departments. We were already having coordination in 21 different sectors with PITB, where Citizen Complaint Centre (CCC) is helping WASA to improve its functioning and rectifying the problems reported by the public, he added.

Dr. Tauseef Tauqeer Head of Electrical Engineering Department of ITU briefed on this occasion regarding the comprehensive Complaint Management System (CMS) android application to provide end to end transparency, solutions in hands to citizens and interface SDOs for quick resolutions.

The Areas of Cooperation and Scope of Work include cooperation in Research and Development Activities, Participation in Seminars, Exchange of Academic Materials and other information and Special Training Program.
