President Dr Arif Alvi has appointed Maleeka Ali Bukhari as chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) on the advice of the Prime Minister. A copy of the notification available with Business Recorder says: "Maleeka Ali Bukhari is appointed as chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), in terms of section 5 (3) of Benazir Income Support Programme Act, 2010, with immediate effect and until further orders."

The BISP is a flagship programme for eradication of poverty and elevating the status of marginalised and under-privileged sections of society, especially women, through establishment of comprehensive social protection net.
