Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that it was the constitutional responsibility of the government to establish an interest free economy in the country. He was talking to the media after addressing the participants of the JI Ijtema at Sanghota in Swat on Sunday.

According to the media cell of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore at Mansoora , Sirajul Haq said that in order to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state, the government would have to give special attention to education, health, employment and collective justice. He said the government announcement to create ten million jobs had given a new hope to the nation.

He said the JI wanted a stable democracy in the country and it also desired that the presidential elections were held in a democratic manner. He said that reliable elections were a basic requirement of a democratic society. However, he said that the 25th July elections were the elections only of the millionaires and billionaires and the election commission had failed to hold fair, free and transparent elections and to implement its code of conduct. However, he said, that in spite of all this, the JI wanted the system to continue so that the problems of the masses were solved.

Sirajul Haq said that the country had experienced dictatorship and civil governments in the past but none of those had given attention to the problems of the general public and only the interest of a small elite class was watched.

The JI chief further said that the biggest task before the government at present was to start accountability of the remaining 436 people named in the Panama leaks. All the corrupt people, howsoever powerful they were, must be brought to book, he added. Sirajul Haq said that load shedding was totally out of control in Khyber PK. He said the issue was not the power generation; it was of the distribution and transmission of power.
