Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) here on Thursday organized a literary programme series 'Meet a writer over a cup of tea' in the honour of the famous humorous poet and intellectual Sarfraz Shahid. Addressing the gathering, Sarfraz Shahid said that his poetry delicately covers national and international issues through humor and satire.

This, he said, during the 32nd session, presided over by Professor Anwar Masood, of literary programme series 'Meet a Writer over a Cup of Tea' at the Pakistan Academy of Letters here on Thursday. It was held under the aegis of the Writer's Café which is being run by Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL).

Prominent writers, poets and intellectuals took part in the session including Dr Inam Ul Haq Javed, Naseem Sehar, Mahboob Zafar, Dr Mazhar Abbas Rizvi, Dr Nisar Turabi, Dr Rashid Hameed and others. They asked questions from Sarfraz Shahid with respect to his artistic life and personality.

While sharing with them the details, Sarfraz told the participants of the session that he was born on October 29, 1938 in Ghakkar Mandi, district Gujranwala, and served in Metrological Department for more than 30 years and got retired as director.

In the literary session, literary work done by Sarfraz Shahid was pinpointed. His fellows threw light on the background of his most celebrated literary works.

It merits mentioning here that Sarfraz Shahid is one of the celebrated humorous poets of the country. He enjoys his own unique style. He is equally popular at home and abroad.

Besides a number of national and international poetic symposiums at his credit, he is author of more than two dozens books, including seven collection of original humorous poetry, namely Bila Takaluf, Kuch to Kahiay, Hera Phery, Chokay, Dish Antenna, Gufta Shagufta and Chokay Chakkay.

He has made a valuable contribution to Urdu literature. His contribution has been praised by prominent scholars as Dr Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Syed Zameer Jaffari, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, Mumtaz Mufti, Iftikhar Arif, Dilawar Fiqar, Dr Jamil Talibi, Ata ul Haq Qasmi, Mohsin Ihsan and others. Syed Zameer Jaffari termed Shahid's poetry a meritorious work. He was of the view that after Akbar Allah Abadi, such 'Meena Bazar" of humorous poetry would be rarely found.
