National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases - NICVD in collaboration with Government of Sindh, created history in cardiac healthcare in Pakistan by performing totally free of cost open heart surgeries at NICVD Sukkur. The first open heart bypass surgery for three vessel disease was performed on March 10, by NICVD team led by Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Professor Fazle Rabbi and first open heart ASD closure has been done of a female patient with an atrial septal defect on Saturday, March 17. Till date, 3 open heart surgeries have been performed successfully. All patients are stable and recovering well.

This 300-bedded cardiac hospital is the place which not only caters the population of Sukkur but also patients from upper Sindh, southern Punjab and Balochistan province.

At commencement of Cardiac Surgery Services on March 10, Executive Director, NICVD Professor Nadeem Qamarstated that this is a huge achievement of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases to initiate open heart surgery services at NICVD Sukkur100% free, because this major cardiac surgery used to be done only in big cities of the country or abroad. With initiation of cardiac surgery facilities, we will be able to provide comprehensive cardiology care to the patient. NICVD aims at bridging the gap of heart healthcare across Sindh Province and ensuring that we provide specialized care at the doorstep of every needy patient. In near future paediatric cardiac surgeries will also be initiated here.

Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah praised that in future also NICVD and Sindh Government jointly will continue to serve the people of Sindh with dedication, commitment and vision. He further wished success to NICVD for its future projects and reiterates his support.-PR
