He said residents lamented that the project was not laid down to facilitate the citizenry but to inflate the wealth of the Sharifs. It must be noted that Imran visited membership camps in Multan on Thursday. During his visit, he tweeted that the Multan Metro was a 'white elephant' for the city and lacked significant infrastructure or any visible volume of passengers.
He termed the project more of an inconvenience than a facility, as it was fueled by huge sums of subsidies and was, therefore, not sustainable. Khan said the project was constructed just an intermediary for sending money to offshore accounts and not to serve public interest.
Later, chairing a meeting of PTI's core group, he announced to launch on April 29 a nationwide election campaign from a grand public gathering in Lahore. The party also discussed rival Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) "double standard" after it fielded its own candidate despite getting support of the party in election of Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla.
The sources privy to the development said that the party decided not to support PPP any time in future after it ditched the PTI by pitching Sherry Rehman as its candidate for opposition leader in Senate. The PTI also announced it would resist privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) as sell-off of the national entities at throwaway prices to government cronies was not acceptable.
Meanwhile, PTI Central Information Secretary Fawwad Chaudhary in a letter to newly elected Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani demanded action against former finance minister Ishaq Dar as he could not come to take oath despite being elected as member Senate. He said there were graft charges against Dar due to which he could not come to Pakistan to take oath and the chairman Senate should take notice of it.
In yet another letter to Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Chaudhary demanded to clear the position about the delay in oath taking of MNA-elect from NA-120 Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. With best wishes for speedy recovery of Kulsoom Nawaz, who is undergoing cancer treatment in London, he said the rules should be clear about the delay of a member who was elected by the people.
