Former senator Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Nehal Hashmi has been summoned on Wednesday (today) by the Supreme Court for uttering abusive remarks against the judges after his release from Adiala Jail. The PML-N leader while talking to the lawyers in Rawalpindi after his release used derogatory remarks against the judges and this video has been circulating in social media.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard an intra-court appeal of Nehal Hashmi against the order as a result of that he was sent to jail for one month for committing the contempt of court. "Hashmi must be present in the court tomorrow (March 7)," the Chief Justice ordered.

At the onset of hearing, the Chief Justice inquired from Hashmi's lawyer Kamran Murtaza whether he has watched the video in which he (Hashmi) had used obnoxious remarks against judges. Kamran replied in the negative. Then the video of Hashmi's utterances was played in the courtroom.

After that the Chief Justice said why not his [Hashmi] sentence be enhanced in contempt case and an FIR be registered against him for the gross misconduct. When the Chief Justice was dictating those contemptuous words in his order, which Hashmi used in his interaction with lawyers, Kamran Murtaza requested the CJP not to write those words. The counsel also regretted Hashmi's utterance and said the lawyers' community respects the court.

Meanwhile, a three-member bench, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal, directed Attorney General for Pakistan to provide a copy of the CD, which contains contemptuous speech against the apex court judges by Talal Chaudhry, State Minister for Interior. Kamran Murtaza, who is also representing Talal Ch, told the bench that his client has filed the reply. He said the transcript of the video is provided but still the copy of footage was not given to him.

In another contempt case, a three-member bench, headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed decided to indict Federal Minister for Privatization Daniyal Aziz on 13th March. The bench said: "The PML-N leader has been given proper time to file his point of view but we are not satisfied with his reply."
