The conference attracted a large number of agriculture scientists, economists, growers and researchers in fields of food production, resources management and irrigation, academia and students. Dr Sinkandar Mandhro, Sindh Minster for Health, in his inaugural speech appreciated the role of Sindh Agriculture University for organising the conference, which attracted agriculture scientists and experts in information technology from Pakistan and abroad.
He said that since IT is taking importance at every level, the university will generate productive cadre, who may extend support to agriculture, especially farmers.
SAU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujeebuddin Memon Sehrai said there is a lot of scope to work in agriculture because entire economy of the country is based on this sector. He pointed out the lacking point saying that majority of farmers are uneducated and look unable to foresee the effects of climate change, despite the fact it has become the reality. In this situation, SAU graduates can bridge the gap of educating farmers about these emerging challenges for crop production, crop protection, agriculture engineering and maintaining soil nutrients.
He said the objective of this conference is to bridge gap between farmers and agriculture graduates. "I know growers are crying against the challenges facing in their fields. We are here producing cadre to help them through research."
Professor Dr Mustafa Kan from Turkey in his speech said that this event will strengthen relationship between two countries, Pakistan and Turkey in field of agriculture and create research culture at every level.
Dr Muhammad Shafie from Malaysia said this part of Pakistan has rich fertile lands, irrigation system with river and canals and Agriculture University may utilise this blessing for wellbeing of the rural communities.
Dr Aijaz Khonharo, head of faculty Agriculture Sciences in his welcome address extends thanks for speakers from different universities and institutes of the country and those came from abroad.
Professor Maulana Ali from Indonesia presented his papers on Human Resources Strategy in the framework of food improvement and talked about the challenges in the specific field. There were three halls where speakers with different backgrounds gave presentations at different halls and attracted learned cadre to share knowledge. Professor Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar, Dr Tehmina of social sciences and others also spoke on the occasion.
The conference has received 93 research papers and presentations from Pakistan and abroad on various subjects for two-day events being organised in the university premises.
