Department of Excise & Taxation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has collected revenue of over Rs 10 billion during the period from 2012-13 to 2016-17 while another sum of Rs 692.934 million has been collected in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2017-18. The information was provided to the provincial assembly in response to a question submitted by Mohammad Ali, a Jamaat-e-Islami affiliated legislator from Dir Upper.

The answer distributed among the members of the provincial assembly states that since the inception of PTI government, the department has shown better results, which speaks of the improving trend in the increase of provincial revenues. During last financial year, the department launched crackdown against tax defaulters and sealed the properties of over 1000 defaulters that resulted in the recovery of the millions of rupees from them.

During the campaign, under excellent strategy, the department recovered property tax from the owners of buildings in Karkhano Market, the largest Bara Market of the country. Despite within the jurisdiction of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the owners of the markets were refusing to pay taxes. The department after review of various old laws and not only amended them, rather also approved Road Checking Seizure of Vehicles and TDC Rules 2015, whose implementation not only increase the number of tax payers, but also benefited the province through increase in revenue.
