Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Friday said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)'s candidate for the slot of prime minister in the 2018 general elections. Talking to media in Lahore, Rana Sanaullah alleged that some politicians are attempting to create anarchy in the Punjab province.

He added that some 'hunters' are using Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri's shoulder for their vested interests. "Dr Qadri's stance for the past three years was that Justice Baqar Najafi's report be made public and the demand has been met," Rana said, adding: "Some elements are playing politics over the lives lost in Model Town incident."

He said Dr Qadri would have to approach the court of law to present their case in Model Town killings. Answering a question, Rana Sanaullah said that he supports and endorses Railways Minister Saad Rafique's recent statement saying Khawaja Saad Rafique did not utter any statement concerning Pakistan Army.

Rana further said that general elections and Senate polls will be held as per schedule. Some elements are trying to contest elections by putting Dr Qadri atop a stage as face of an anti-government protest. However, he said political designs of our opponents would never succeed as truth and righteousness would prevail.

To a query, Rana said that Nawaz Sharif's ouster has not affected his popularity among the people. Some elements are resorting to ill-tactics fearing that Nawaz Sharif would again get elected in general elections 2018, he said. Rana Sanaullah said the narrative of the PML-N and Nawaz Sharif is the same - that institutions should work together.
