After the number of complaints registered about the spread Measles, around 733 infants were vaccinated during an anti-Measles campaign carried out in Kam-Shelman and Loy-Shelman, the remote areas of Tehsil Landi Kotal of tribal Khyber Agency.

The political Tehsildar Landi Kotal, Shams-ul-Islam said that keeping in view grievance of the residents, on the direction of Political Agent, Khalid Mehmood, the Assistant Political Agent Landi Kotal, Niaz Muhammad with coordination of health department dispatched health teams to the area to conduct anti-Measles drive. He added that 733 children were vaccinated against the disease in the area.

Agency Surgeon Dr Ayub said that on locals' complaints about certain Measles cases appeared in the area, visiting health teams responded abruptly and vaccinated approximately 1268 children in Kum-Shelman, Loy-Shelman, Sheen Pokh, Ash Khel and Shiekhmal. The campaign was also in progress in Bara, he added.

He denied the report of a baby girl's death, identified as Javaria daughter of Atiq Khan of Shiekhmal of Measles and said the death cause was other health complications. He said that the situation was under controlled and called upon the residents not to respond on rumours. He urged the parents to vaccinate their children against the disease in fixed centers, established by the health department in every locality.

It is worth to mention here that last day rumour was circulating that the epidemic of measles broke out in the far-flung areas. Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference, activists of Khyber Students Union at the Peshawar press club, urged the government to relocate Government Poly Technique Institute Dogra to Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.

Central president of the union Sadeeq Afridi and other office bearers said that the college was shifted to Jamrud due to Bara law and order situation in 2009 and now when peace has been restored; the college should be relocated to Bara. Talking to the media, he said that the government should not deprive students of their right and the college should be shifted back to Bara.
