Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Arif Nawaz Khan has directed to recruit 2,100 police personnel in the Special Protection Unit (SPU) of the Punjab police by March, 2018, at any cost so as to provide foolproof security to foreigners working on different developmental projects across the province.

The IGP issued these directions while chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) here on Monday under the agenda of expansion of the SPU besides reviewing its progress. Additional IG (Operations) Punjab Mohsin Hassan Butt, Additional IG Welfare and Finance Muhammad Tahir, Additional IG (Establishment) Punjab Sulman Ahmad Chaudhry, DIG (Operations) Punjab Amir Zulfiqar and DIG SPU Faisal Ali Rana besides other senior police officers attended the meeting

During the meeting, Arif directed the DIG SPU Punjab to utilize all available resources in lifting the living standards of the SPU personnel, who are protecting the foreigners, especially Chinese people, working on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other developmental projects. "The officials concerned should ensure that snipers deployed for the security of foreigners have night vision binoculars," the IGP said, adding all the Districts Police Officers (DPOs) should also review security arrangements personally for the foreigners after each week.

Arif further directed to deploy police personnel after imparting them proper briefings regarding the SPOs and prevailing law and order situation. In the meantime, DIG SPU Faisal Ali Rana said they are not making efforts to lift the living standards of the SPU personnel but they are also providing recreational facilities to them.
