Former Qatari Prime Minister Prince Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, who is known for his letter in Panama case, held meetings with the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday. The former Qatari premier reached Lahore on Wednesday with a 13-member delegation in a special plane. The delegation was first taken from Lahore airport's Hajj terminal to Nawaz's residence at Jati Umrah with an official protocol amid stringent security cover.

The Qatari prince held talks with Nawaz Sharif and discussed matters of mutual interest. Maryam Nawaz and former senator Saifur Rehman were also present on the occasion, sources said. The Qatari prince on the occasion said that investment in Pakistan reflects confidence in the PML-N government, the sources said, adding: "The royal prince said they would continue to make investment in Pakistan in future."

The former premier hosted a luncheon for the Qatari prince and his delegation. Later, the Qatari delegation met Shahbaz Sharif at his Model Town office where the Chief Minister's son Salman Shahbaz received the delegation. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, bilateral ties and LNG projects in Punjab were discussed, the sources claimed. The Qatari delegation later departed for Karachi to attend the inauguration ceremony of Port Qasim Coal Power Plant. The 1320-MW plant has been developed with the help of China and Qatar.

The sources claimed that the Qatar royal family member is said to be a close ally of Nawaz and attempted to aid the former premier's case during the Panama Papers proceedings in the Supreme Court earlier this year. According to the PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, Qatari Prince Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani arrived in Pakistan to attend the inauguration ceremony of Port Qasim Coal Power Plant. She said the Qatari prince arrived in Lahore and held a meeting with Nawaz Sharif and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
