Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday decided to scrutinize party funding documents submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) until Islamabad High Court gives a verdict in the case. PTI's lawyer Saqlain Haider informed Chief Election Commissioner former Justice Sardar Raza Khan during hearing of the foreign funding case that Islamabad High Court will hear the same case on December 5.

The CEC decided that the ECP will examine the funding details submitted by the PTI and not share them with anyone until the matter is decided by the high court. Petitioner Akbar Babar's counsel submitted additional documents during the hearing, claiming that the funding details submitted by the PTI are bogus and incomplete. The CEC, however, objected to the documents submitted by Babar's counsel, saying the documents do not contain the money transfer accounts.

Babar's lawyer Ahmad Hassan said that the PTI admits receiving funds from the Gulf states but it does not reflect it in its documents submitted with the Election Commission. He also said the company that collected funds for the PTI in the United States is illegal and funds of Imran Khan Foundation have also been transferred to the PTI's party funds.

The chief election commissioner, however, said that it requires time to examine all the documents submitted by the PTI in the case. He also directed the PTI's counsel to submit a reply on the points raised by Babar's lawyer during the hearing.

On last hearing of the case on September 18, the PTI submitted to the ECP documents related to its funding after it was given the last chance to submit all the record by September 18. In 2014, Babar filed a petition in the ECP seeking the disqualification of PTI Chairman Imran Khan for allegedly obtaining funding from illegal sources and discrepancies in the party's accounts.
