The Supreme Court on Thursday granted a week to the federal finance secretary over a matter relating to non-payment of salaries to lady health workers in the country. Appearing before a three-judge bench led by Justice Gulzar Ahmad in the matter, the finance secretary assured the court that after consultation with the secretary planning and development he will settle the issue amicably.

During the course of proceedings, the bench was apprised that Sindh government will regularise the lady health workers within next 15 days whereas Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan governments have already regularised the lady health workers. Expressing dismay over non-appearance of law officers of KPK and Punjab governments before the court, the bench issued notices to all the four provincial law officers in the matter for May 18.
