Sindh Excise and Taxation (E&T) department on Tuesday claimed to have collected taxes amounting rupees 2.75 million, impounded 71 vehicles and seized documents of 927 vehicles during its weeklong road checking campaign in Karachi since March 20. According to the E&T officials, Rs 2.75 million were collected till March 27 and now the department has decided to continue the campaign till March 31. They said that Rs 1.47 million were collected on account of motor vehicle tax while Rs 1.035 million withholding tax and Rs 0.22 million as penalties.

They said that around 6855 vehicles were checked in different parts of Karachi where around 71 vehicles were impounded and documents of 927 vehicles were seized. However, some 243 documents were released after receiving due tax and penalty. Moreover, officials urged the motorists to pay their due taxes in order to avoid any unpleasant situation.
