Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Dr Farooq Sattar was arrested on Friday night while he was returning from a marriage party at PAF Museum near Karsaz. His arrest was made in connection with the August 22 (2016) incidents, according to Aaj News that also quoted sources as reporting that MQM Pakistan leader was released on intervention from an important person of the federal government who had made telephonic conversation with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Sattar was shifted to Chakiwara Police station. He was travelling with his protocol, which included guards and his driver. Protocol members were searched but not arrested. Sindh Chief Minister's (CM) House denied the report of arrest of Farooq Sattar saying that the court had issued non-bailable warrant to arrest him and police had gone to do so but he was not arrested.

Another news channel quoted Farooq Sattar as saying that he remained under custody for one and half an hour. Latest report had it that Farooq Sattar has reached MQM's acting headquarter in PIB Colony. MQM is planning to celebrate its foundation day on Saturday. Anti-Terrorism Court II had declared him absconding accused in two cases registered by Artillery Police Station. The case 116/2016 was related to August 22 (2016) hate-speeches and provocation while case No.117 was about attack on a news channel in the wake of the provocative speech same day. Farooq Sattar had announced parting ways with the MQM London and the speech made by Altaf Hussain, MQM's founder.
