The 9th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS 2016) showed the world Pakistan's capability and potential in defence sector. These views were expressed at a Gala Dinner & Cultural Show organised by DEPO and Badar Expo Solutions, at DHA Golf Club.

It showcased the classic artisanship, traditional culinary master-pieces, indigenous folk music and dances, and neo-cultural couture from all over Pakistan. The show took the guests, international and national delegates, on a journey through Pakistan. Starting from the coastal province of Sindh and ending at Punjab. Each region was marked by memorable performances from Sanam Marvi, Akhtar Chanal and Shazia Khushk. The attire for each region was portrayed through the beautiful and embellished collections from the top designers of the country.

The event welcomed national and international delegates and dignitaries while softly played instrumental music; mesmerising ambience and extravagant displays were strategically placed highlighting Pakistan's highly valued handicrafts. One could delve into the culture and experience it first-hand by visiting any of the stalls. Vibrantly coloured Truck Art motifs were seen on vintage vehicles, horse led buggy, lanterns, chairs, and regional composites. From Sindhi Jharoka to Kashmiri shawls, the artifacts included representation from every region across Pakistan.

The performances were based on a journey through Pakistan. From the coastal province Sindh was a memorable performance by Sanam Marvi, a traditional Sindhi Jhumar Dance and a magnificent display of attire performed by young models. The journey then continued to Balochistan, where captivating performance was given by Akhtar Chanal and set the tone to unveil magnificent designs for men. Baloch Leva Dance was presented which made everyone tap their feet. As the journey progressed towards Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the traditional Khattak and Kalash dances, and inspirational fashion line for the province captured the audience's awe.

During the break the guests enjoyed tantalising sweet and savory culinary master-pieces from all the regions of Pakistan. From Kabab to chuttny, roti to rice, some of the dishes included Chicken Karahi, Dum Aloo, Aloo Bukhara Kofta, Chappli Kabab, Sindhi Biryani and Sajji to name a few.

A depiction of Kashmiri culture included a performance by National Award winning Ustad Raees Ahmed, who put the audience in a trance with tunes from his violin. What followed was a brilliant display of Kashmir as seen through the approach of fashion artistry. The segment docked with a lively performance on Kashmir Dance.

Dress performances were characteristically luxurious and inspired from Gilgit Baltistan. The melodies of the Rubaab painted a serene picture of the region, and left the soul resonating. An enchanting performance to the beats of Dhol, portrayed the vibrant culture of Punjab. While it was intricately projected through embellished collection perfectly highlighted the zeal and fervour of Punjab. The enthralling evening came to an end with Shazia Khushk's performance that captivated the audience and had them on their feet while the pyrotechnic displays lit up the night sky.
