The Punjab government would provide development funds directly to the members of local bodies while the members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) would have no role in this regard, said Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Punjab Rana Muhammad Arshad.

He was addressing a press conference at the Qaddafi Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. He said the provincial assembly has passed Rs 286 billion development funds for the local bodies governments that would spent through the members of local bodies. The Punjab government was serious in strengthening the local bodies system to enable the elected members for resolution of issues at the local level, he added.

He said the PML-N has secured a clear cut lead in all 34 districts of the province and the system of local bodies would be in place from 1st of January onwards. Speaking about the performance of the Punjab government, he said record legislation was made in the provincial assembly amidst a non-serious behaviour of the opposition.
