Under its recovery of bills drive, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) disconnected power supply to the Ripha University premises on a default of Rs 4.9 million, pending over the last six months. The Ex-En Township division Rai Asghar took action along with the divisional team and disconnected power supply to the university premises on Wednesday.

He said the action has been taken in line with the recovery drive launched by the Chief Executive LESCO Syed Wajid Ali Kazmi. He further said the university administration had obtained restraining order against LESCO after payment 40 percent of the outstanding bill from a lower court. The LESCO officials, however, disconnected supplies once the higher forum vacated the restraining order of lower court.

Meanwhile, the LESCO chief has vowed to end load shedding in the region next year during his visit to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, saying that a complete overhauling of the system would take place soon to end to load shedding in commercial and industrial areas.

Already, the prime minister has directed to reduce the electricity load shedding duration by half in rural and urban areas. The prime minister has expressed hope of getting rid of the power outages in 2018 after inaugurating the Chashma-III Nuclear Power Plant on Wednesday.
