The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the three under-custody accused in connection with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq's murder that took place in London on September 16, 2010. Sources said that FIA's counterterrorism wing has registered an FIR against the main accused Muazzam Ali Khan and Khalid Shamim and Mohsin arrested in connection with the Imran Farooq's murder case.

The FIR was registered under the anti-terrorism act, they said. The decision to register an FIR against the accused in custody was announced by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on December 2 during a press conference. He said the decision to register an FIR against accused Muazzam Ali, Khalid Shamim and Mohsin was taken in the light of an inquiry report prepared by the Scotland Yard team and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

He said the main objective of the FIR was to further proceed the probe of the Imran Farooq murder case, adding that after the remand the accused were supposed to be released but they have made serious revelations during the investigation, "so we've decided to register an FIR against them."
