Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Raheel Sharif on Thursday met the United States Armed Services and Intelligence Committees. The US senators of both the committees praised Pakistan army's achievements in the war on terror and offered complete support to Pakistan Army in its anti-terrorism campaign. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Asim Bajwa's series of tweets, General Raheel Sharif visited Capitol Hill during his US visit on Thursday and met Chairman Senate Armed Services Committee and Intelligence Committee and other senior members.

The Army chief said that terrorism is an international problem and the entire world will have to unite to counter it. He said that the management of Pak-Afghan border will also have to be improved. The US senators praised Raheel Sharif's skills in the war on terror. Senator Richard Bernstein said that Pak army has shattered the terrorists.

Senator Richard Burr and Feinstein of the Intelligence Committee noted that Pak Army's perseverance and commitment had degraded militant Networks in Pakistan. Leadership of Intelligence Committee acknowledged Pakistan has turned tide of terrorism and assured CoAS of the US support and cooperation in eradicating terrorism and extremism. Senate Armed Services Committee meeting included Chairman Senate John McCain, Senator Jack Reed and senior senator members.

Senator McCain appreciated efforts, sacrifices and steadfastness of Pakistan's Armed Forces, especially CoAS leadership in fighting terrorist Networks on both sides of Pak-Afghan border. Appreciating longstanding Pak-US defence cooperation, Senator McCain emphasised need to further reinforce this partnership in view of emerging developments. With clear regional security perspective, CoAS highlighted need for stepped up Pak-Afghan border management and sustained cooperation to deal with emerging threats.
