The Flood Warning Centre (FWC) Lahore has said that the Guddu barrage will attain "high flood" level after mid-day today (Friday) as the combined peak of the flood wave of 0.55 million cusecs of water in the Indus and Chenab rivers would pass through the barrage towards the Sukkur barrage in the Sindh province. Talking to Business Recorder here on Thursday FWC officials said that a sharp peak of High Flood of 1,70,000 cusecs is expected in River Jhelum at Mangla (upstream) after torrential rains in the upper catchment areas of the river.

They said that River Indus at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa Guddu and Sukkur was in Medium Flood Level on Thursday. River Kabul at Nowshera, and River Ravi at Sidhnai are in low Flood Level. The river Chenab is also in flood at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad, Trimmue and Punjnad.

Meanwhile the Meteorological department has said that a well marked seasonal low lies over north Balochistan and its adjoining areas with its trough extending south-eastward. A low pressure lies over north-east Arabian Sea and its adjoining areas. Strong Monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in southern parts of the country and moderate monsoon currents are penetrating in upper and central parts of the country and likely to continue in coming days.

Met Office weather forecast for today: Widespread rain-thundershower is expected in Sindh including Karachi, while at scattered places in Islamabad, Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Multan, D G Khan divisions), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, D.I.Khan divisions), Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Kalat, Quetta, Naseerabad, Makran divisions), FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Scattered heavy falls are also expected in Lower Sindh (Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas divisions), while at isolated places in KP, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, D.G.Khan, Bahawalpur, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat, Makran, Sukkur divisions and Kashmir.
