Caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Wednesday telephoned Chief Ministers of all provinces to discuss security-related matters and other arrangements for the May 11 elections. The Prime Minister ordered the provinces to take extra security measures to safeguard the life and property of the people in general and candidates in particular on the election day.

The Prime Minister made telephone calls to caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Najam Sethi, Chief Minister Sindh Zahid Qurban Alvi, Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Barozai and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tariq Pervez Khan.

Talking to Chief Minister Punjab, the Prime Minister asked about the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf chief who was injured after a fall. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the report of his recovery. He assured the Chief Minister Punjab that the federal government is ready to provide all necessary assistance to the provincial governments to conduct free, fair and transparent elections. The Prime Minister also discussed with the Chief Minister Punjab matter pertaining enhancing co-ordination among different departments at federal and provincial level in this regard. Najam Sethi apprised the Prime Minister about arrangements made by the provincial government particularly those for the Election Day.

Talking to Sindh Chief Minister Khoso observed that the law and order situation had shown "signs of improvement" after "effective measures" taken by the federal government in co-ordination with provincial authorities. He expressed the confidence that the situation would further improve soon. He assured the Sindh Chief Minister that federal government would provide all possible assistance to the provincial government in this regard. During conversation with the Balochistan Chief Minister, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that all political parties are taking part in the elections, including nationalist parties, which he stated was a good omen for national politics.

Talking to the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister expressed concern over the terrorist attacks targeting candidates of different parties in the province. He expressed the confidence that the provincial government would take extra security measures on the Election Day. He said that all federal government security agencies had been instructed to increase the level of co-ordination with provincial governments in order to co-ordinate and manage the arraignments made for elections.
