The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed Inspector General Punjab Police to ensure the security of the petitioner, a jail inmate, Umar Iqbal, who feared that he might be killed by police in prison or in fake encounter. The under-trail prisoner, Umar Iqbal, detained at Faisalabad Jail contended that his trial was underway. He added that through some reliable sources he had learnt that police would kill him in the jail or in a fake encounter.

He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondents to protect his life. The court while directing police to provide security to the inmate asked IG Punjab police to submit reply by January 2 in the case.
