Incessant rain in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad paralysed routine civic life, besides multiplying people's miseries. Huge traffic gridlocks were witnessed on Friday on almost all major roads as rain water entered into several houses in low-lying areas in Rawalpindi. Traffic wardens were trying to ensure smooth traffic flow.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the federal capital received 26 milimetres of rain while 23mm rain was recorded in Rawalpindi. The heavy downpour started at 10 pm last night in the twin cities. Problems faced by the people of the twin cities, who were facing great difficulties because of non-availability of gas and electricity, were compounded by incessant rain and chilly weather.

Rain water reportedly entered into houses in low-laying areas, damaging household goods while several roads were also flooded. Areas badly hit by rain are: Adyala Village, Khasla, Gulshanabad, Commercial Market, Faizabad, Double Road, Sixth Road, Rehmanabad, Shakriyal, Sadiqabad Chowk, 8 Number Chungi, Muslim Town, Khurram Colony, ASF Colony, Rawal Road, Chah Sultan, Tipu Road, Airport Chowk, Gulzar-e-Quaid and Shah Khalid Colony.

Reportedly, the rain badly damaged the gypsies' huts and houses made of mud, however, luckily no causality or injury were reported in the city. Similarly, labourers, vendors and push cart owners complained of low turnout of customers. But huge rush could be witnessed on coffee, soup and shops of eatables, while business of dry fruits also witnessed a boom. Price of firewood also surged in the wake of the rain.
