Pakistan Tele-communication Authority (PTA) on Friday suspended cell phone services for seven hours in the city in a bid to avert any act of terrorism, which were later restored in the evening. The cellular services remained suspended from 11am till 6:00 pm Friday. Sources said that the mobile phone services also remained shut in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The service of wireless phone of Pakistan Telecom Company Limited (PTCL) was also closed. The PTA did not give any reason for the suspension, but sources said that the services were blocked on security grounds. Earlier, Interior Ministry has warned Sindh and KPK governments of terror threats in Karachi and Peshawar.

According to sources in interior ministry, a letter was sent to the governments of the two provinces informing that the militants had planned to sabotage the peace in the two cities by attacking Juma prayers. "Remote control devices can be used by the militants to trigger planted bombs," the letter said adding a plan to target prominent religious figures could also be executed.
