The provincial government has promulgated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government: Act 2012 (Act No VIII of 2012), with effect from January 1st, 2013. Under the Act, District Councils, Municipal Corporation (Peshawar only) and Municipal Committees in all 25 districts of the province will be established from start of the new calendar year.
