Mental Health Federation Pakistan (MHFP) organized an international seminar on "Mental Health Issues - a recent perspective" here at a local hotel on Wednesday. President MHFP, Prof. I.A.K. Tareen, Prof. emeritus King Edward Medical University, Dr. Khalida Tareen and Prof. Aftab Asif were the members of panel of experts, while psychiatrists of international repute Dr. Saleem Tareen, Dr. Anjum Bashir, Dr. Eaisha Tareen and Prof. Tanvir Rana delivered lectures on various topics.

Prof. Khalida Tareen during her address said that it is unfortunate that there is no role model in the ruling class, while people are deprived of happiness due to lawlessness and financial problems in society. The young generation is committing suicide because they have no aims and objective in their lives.

Prof. Dr. Tanvir Rana in his address on "Management of Depression" said that mental health problems were increasing in Pakistan and people were losing self confidence and they were suffering from depression. He said it was our individual and collective responsibility to create a model society and ensure free and fair justice for common people.

Dr. Eaisha Tareen, who has PHD in psychology, delivered her address on "stress and distress in women" during the seminar. She said women are suffering from distress and mental disorder problems because they are facing different domestic issues created by their husbands and children. She said the major reasons behind the women problems were inflation. She stressed that we can control the mental health problems if all family members sit daily together.

Psychiatrist from University College of London, Dr. Anjum Bashir delivered his lecture on the topic of "Emotional disorders in children" and said that parents should spare some time and they should address the problems with their children. He said children are taking little interest in their study due to misuse of computer, mobile and internet.

Dr. Saleem Tareen said that terrorism and bomb blasts incidents are increasing the insecurity among the masses and government should control the law and order situation in country. Chairman Department of Psychiatry, Mayo Hospital, Prof. Aftab Asif and Prof. I.A.K. Tareen said that the government should start post-graduate training in psychiatry for doctors.
