Ahsan said the PML-N is deeply concerned over the country's current economic situation but determined to tackle all challenges, if Allah Almighty provided an opportunity in the general elections. He said our economy requires immediate overhaul for which a strong economic team is needed. He said the PML-N has strong economic team which is capable enough to handle all the serious challenges posed to the country's economy.
Answering a question, the PML-N leader said holding of general elections in the country is need of the hour. Any delay in elections would prove disastrous for the country, he added.
He maintained that some elements are trying to create hurdles in the way of PML-N but they would never succeed in their designs. He was of the view that only a government enjoying majority in the parliament would be able to bring much-needed reforms. Those who are trying for a hung parliament are not serving the interest of the country.
To another query, Ahsan said that the federal government has not so far contacted the opposition leader on caretaker set-up. However, he said caretaker set-up is expected before March 17. He urged the countrymen to vote the PML-N in coming elections for benefit of the country.
Moreover, former Ambassador Javed Malik, who is Advisor Foreign Relations to President Pakistan Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif called on him in Lahore and apprised him on the foreign relations initiatives being undertaken to build support for the Pakistan and the party on an international level.
Malik also apprised Nawaz Sharif about his meetings with British and European Parliamentarians as well as the important personalities in UAE and Middle East in an effort to build wide ranging diplomatic support for Pakistan and apprise them on the policies of Pakistan Muslim League (N).
During the meeting Javed Malik also updated the Nawaz Sharif on activities of PML-N Business and Professionals Forum to engage with affluent and influential Overseas Pakistani businessmen and professionals, as well as Friends of Pakistan with a view to attracting foreign investment particularly in the energy sector. In this context some British, German and UAE based companies will be coming to Pakistan in the month of January to give their presentations to the Nawaz Sharif to undertake projects in the energy, corporate farming and infrastructure building sectors.
Nawaz Sharif appreciated the efforts by Javed Malik, Advisor Foreign Relations to the President PML-N and said that Pakistan Muslim League (N) regards the Overseas Pakistanis as an asset for Pakistan and appreciates the their valuable contributions towards the country's economy. He directed Javed Malik to ensure that all issues being faced by the community overseas are addressed expeditiously and pointed out that the Punjab Government has established a special cell in this regard. He further added that the PML-N Business and Professionals Forum should also provide a platform the Pakistanis living overseas to have a voice within the party and a convention for Overseas Pakistanis may be organized in Pakistan in which the Pakistanis based overseas are invited to give their suggestions so that they have a voice in the nation building process.
