A National Assembly committee on Friday recommended authorities concerned and the lower house of parliament to take appropriate lawful action against a director of the Federal Investigation Agency for breaching the privileges of MNA Abdul Qadir Gilani, a son of former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privilege recommended that the Competent Authority "may be directed to take necessary disciplinary action in accordance with law against Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Hussain Asghar".

According to the report compiled by the committee which was presented in the National Assembly on Friday, FIA director Hussain Asghar, the Investigating Officer, was "biased in his investigation against Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, MNA because of his suspension and transfer from Islamabad by former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, the father of Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani.

The entire investigation was the outcome of rancor and is violative of law, thus fair investigation was not expected from him". The report says that "competent Authority may be directed to take necessary disciplinary action in accordance with law against Hussain Asghar, Director FIA". "The House may also take an appropriate action, which it deems necessary in view of breach of the privilege of Syed Abdul Qadar Gillani, MNA."
