The government of Japan decided to extend grant assistance for radio broadcasting and child health, worth about 2.8 billion Japanese Yen (approximately US $33.6 million or PKR 3.16 billion) in total, to Pakistan. Signings for the following two projects took place between Hiroshi Oe, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Javed Iqbal, Secretary of Economic Affairs Division (EAD) here on Friday.

In order to strengthen the existing hospital, 'the project for improvement of Child Health Institute in Karachi' intends to extend facilities and provide necessary equipment for the purpose of adding the secondary medical functions. The rehabilitation of the Institute will result in the provision of better health amenities for children of the area and will have a better impact on the community.

Radio broadcasting is a major source of information, particularly in remote areas. In case of disasters and crises, radio broadcasting is instrumental to inform people of situations on the ground and emergency support such as food and shelters. Radio services are equally beneficial in peace times for providing information on education, health and many other social and economic issues. Due to 36 years old transmitters, Radio Pakistan Islamabad has been facing reduced area coverage and shorter broadcasting hours, hence, capacity of their current service is limited.-PR
