He further said that birth record is a long life legal record and a person uses his or her birth certificate to prove age, parentage, and citizenship etc. Birth certificates are needed for entrance to school; voter registration; obtaining a driver's license, marriage license, passport, veterans' benefits, welfare aid, or social security benefits; and many other purposes, Imran said.
Local religious leader Qari Owais said that birth registration is a child right and the provision of this right is giving identity to each and every child. He said that birth registration was started first in the world by Hazrat Umar Farooq and now followed by all the developed countries.
He stressed upon all the parents and government to ensure the birth registration of each and every child and said that avoiding of birth registration is the violation of children right. Gohar Ayub, District Superintendent, Nadra Peshawar briefed the participants on the process and importance of birth registration. He said that the birth registration is important because it establishes the existence of a child under law and provides the foundation for safeguarding many of the child's civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child specifies that every child has the right to be registered at birth without any discrimination.
