The Consumer Rights Protection Council (CRPC) on Friday requested the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) to take notice of abnormal increase in the prices of poultry items in Karachi. In a letter sent to chairman CCP, the CRPC said the drastic action taken by the commission against poultry sector in Sindh in past, had helped consumers to purchase poultry items at competitive prices.

Moreover, it said the council had observed exorbitant rates of poultry items in the city again and added that the price index started rising from the second week of December 2012; the price of live chicken went to Rs 170 from Rs 142 while the rates of eggs escalated from Rs 110 per dozen to Rs 130 per dozen. The CRPC also requested to the commission to take serious notice on the said complaint to facilitate the consumers of Sindh.
