The LTU Islamabad was assigned the formidable task of achieving the budgetary target for financial year 2012-2013. The annual target for the LTU Islamabad constitutes 20-25 percent of the national budget assigned to the FBR. Keeping in view the importance of this revenue generating unit, Raza Baqir has assumed charge as Chief Commissioner LTU Islamabad without delay. The FBR wanted to maximise revenue collection at the LTUs through most experienced tax officials for which Baqir has been given new assignment with immediate effect.
Sources said that FBR is facing an uphill task to meet the revenue collection target during 2012-13 and recent reshuffle at LTU Islamabad would further improve revenue collection during 2012-13. A team of tax officials of LTU Islamabad headed by new Chief Commissioner is chalking out new enforcement and administrative strategy with special focus on recovery of arrears and income tax assessments of the registered persons.
Baqir has worked as FBR Member Admin, Chief Commissioner Regional Tax Office (RTO), Lahore and other key positions in field formations. With ample experience of sales tax and federal excise laws, he remained actively involved in Tax Administration Reforms Programme of the FBR. He has also served as Pakistan's Commercial Counsellor in Copenhagen and Sydney.
