"Democracy does not mean just casting of votes but empowerment of the people and their participation in the affairs of the State," he added. He said that elections cannot bring about a change unless the system was changed from within. "The present assemblies have miserably failed as they did not approve a single piece of legislation to effectively control rampant terrorism and extremism in the country," he added.
He made it clear that he did not want to derail the democracy or the election process. "I will unfold my reform agenda at the mammoth public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday for consideration of all political parties and 180 million people of Pakistan," he maintained. He thanked the Federal and Punjab governments for not creating any hindrance in holding the public meeting on Sunday.
Meanwhile, thousands of PAT workers are converging at the Minar-e-Pakistan from all over the country and giving final touches to the arrangements for the address of their leaders. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Punjab on Friday said that its workers would participate in the public meeting in large numbers as per direction of its leader Altaf Hussain who has announced full support to Dr Tahirul Qadri's reform agenda. Both parties agree that there is no difference between the programmes of the MQM and the PAT as both the parties want to bring an end to the age-old and decaying feudal system.
