The UNGC is a set of 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. In signing the UN Global Compact, Pak Oasis has publicly declared its support to further these important core values. Addressing the ceremony, chairman PAK Oasis Syed Omar Abbas Jilani said that his company was the largest company in Asia dealing water related issues.
"PAK Oasis is providing safe and clean drinking water to the masses in various parts of the country," he said. Appreciating the role of Sindh government in its endeavour to provide safe and clean drinking in the province, he said that Pakistan was doing more rather than developed countries in achieving green and safe emissions. He said that Pak Oasis had set-up 500 plants in rural area of Sindh.
President of UN Global Compact Pakistan Network, Ahsanullah Khan congratulated Pak Oasis on signing UNGC. He said that more Pakistani companies would also join hands with Global Compact Pakistan Network to achieve the set goals. Secretary of UN Global Compact Pakistan Network, Fasihul Karim Siddiqi in his speech highlighted the 10 Principles of UN Global Compact. He said that Principles of UN Global Compact were launched in the year 2000 by the then secretary General Koofi Anan derived from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the ILO's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment & Development and the United Nation's Convention against Corruption.
"The Global Compact, as a voluntary initiative to promote sustainable development and good corporate citizenship has succeeded during the last decade in developing a network of companies and stakeholders now numbering around 8000 in over 135 countries and the current UN Secretary is targeting to bring 20,000 companies within UNGCs ambit by the year 2020," he said. David James, International Trade Manages of Pak Oasis, Saleem Abbas Jilani and others also spoke.
