I commend the endeavours of Haji Fazal Kadir Khan Sherani, the President of FPCCI, and his entire team on holding the Awards ceremony this year. The government declared year 2011-12 as "Year of Exports". It is a matter of great pleasure for me to note that the business community is working hard to increase exports of Pakistan by exploring new markets for diversification of exports.
Being a premier body representing businessmen and traders making vigorous efforts to promote trade with special in Pakistan, FPCCI is emphasis on exports. These Awards represent but one facet of the complex role played by FPCCI in furthering the trade and industry interests of the country. The need for earning foreign exchange has never been greater. Businessmen need to improve the quality of their products to stay competitive in the market.
The export of diverse and value-added items fetch us more foreign exchange than the sales of traditional products in traditional markets. Presently, Pakistan's exports are dominated by textiles, while other items collectively contribute 45%. This is unsatisfactory. Today, we need to explore new markets for both the traditional and non-traditional items.
The Export Trophy Awards are a commendable step as they recognise the achievements of exporters who ventured into new areas and set a high benchmark of succeed. By learning from the example of successful exporters, new entrepreneurs are encouraged to take bold initiatives and win a seal of approval from the apex body. I extend my congratulations to the Award winners and wish them the best for the future.
