We at Sindh Board of Investment have an objective to develop and promote an investment friendly environment to boost economic activity, bring value addition to all sectors of economy and encourage public private partnership for socio-economic development of Pakistan in general and Sindh in particular. Although co-operation between Pakistan and State of Qatar is growing, I strongly believe that present volumes of the Qatar Pakistan trade and economic co-operation do not correspond to their real potential. Both countries have huge possibilities for expansion of mutually advantageous business relations.
I would like to stress that both countries have a substantial potential for the development of our relations for progress, economic growth and prosperity of the common people. I would like to reiterate that Pakistan needs co-operation in Energy sector. There is also a vast yet untapped potential for developing joint projects in different fields ranging from especially in Thar Coal Energy Project, Wind Energy, Mass transit etc. Pakistan & Qatar need to do more work for development of the hydropower projects, identification of sources of financing, exploration of investment opportunities in the energy sector, rehabilitation of existing hydropower plants and opening of Qatari bank branches in Pakistan.
It is really overwhelming that the Qatar Gas had signed a pact with two Pakistani gas companies, including Sui Southern Gas Company Limited and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, for the supply of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) up to 3.5mtpa (million tonnes per anum). I would like to invite Qatari petroleum and gas companies to take advantage of the new policy and invest in Pakistan's oil and gas exploration and production sector. I am absolutely confident that further strengthening multi-faceted co-operation and partnership bonds between Qatar and Pakistan not only fully meets the interests of Qatar and Pakistan but also promotes regional peace and prosperity.
