The Parliament is the only platform, where public representatives discuss and debate challenges confronting the nation for their resolution. The other day nation witnessed an audacious terrorist attack in Peshawar which claimed several innocent lives but our parliamentarians did not bother to take up the issue in the National Assembly on Monday.

This is the level of their interest in resolving the problems directly affecting people. The parties representing the masses in parliament instead of making a comprehensive strategy to counter the militancy and terrorism, are busy in mud- slinging on each other and trying to muster public support for upcoming elections. No single parliamentary party seems interested in the country's security matters. They are in the parliament just to make issues out of non-issues and enjoying all the perks and privileges and every day several people go to the mouth of death.

Parliamentarians prefer to discuss their party or matters of personal interest on the floor of the house instead of trying to develop consensus to get the nation rid of the menace of terrorism. Though law enforcement agencies are countering militancy, but they need guidance of the parliament to come up with a solid approach.

Instead of showing unity against terrorism and condemning the Peshawar terrorist attacks, parliamentarians particularly women members across the divide seem united against chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf , Imran Khan , as Khan's remarks regarding the allocation of special seats for women in the National Assembly caused anger amongst the female MNAs in the lower house of the parliament.

Women parliamentarians condemned Imran Khan's statement and said that special seats were allocated for the women across the world. Breach of privilege or privilege motion to be moved against Imran Khan were the full throated voices heard across the divide. Women parliamentarians seemed furious repeatedly demanded of the speaker to take action against the PTI's chairman.

Though Khan's statement was not healthy but there were several other matter of urgency which needed to be discussed in the house instead of discussing the Khan's statement. Every one sitting in the press gallery was keenly waiting for a show down on the Supreme Court verdict regarding the issuance of contempt notice to Altaf Hussain and delimitation of constituencies in Karachi , which started just before the adjournment of the house when senior leader of MQM , Wasim Akhter, leading his party lawmakers entered the house and delivered a fiery speech on the Apex Court's decision to issue contempt notice to their party head .He said that the MQM would submit its reply in the Supreme Court after consultation with legal experts.

On the other hand senior leader of the MQM were of the view that it is not possible for our leader to appear before the court in person, as many looming dangers are awaiting him to land in Pakistan. Party workers did not want him to come back as they believe that Altaf is a ray of hope for millions of Pakistanis and they cannot expose him to the 'real' dangers.
