Pakistan made tremendous progress in elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDDs), said EDO Health Dr Abdul Rauf while addressing Sanitary Inspectors of district during their refresher training regarding Universal Salt Iodination Programme (USI), jointly organised by department of health and the Micronutrient Initiatives held at DHDC Faisalabad.

EDO Health informed the participants that according to National Nutrition Survey (NNS) 2011, the consumption of iodised salt at house hold level has increased from 17% (NNS 2001) to (NNS 2011). This increase in consumption of iodised salt has directly benefited the mothers and school-going children, he maintained. Dr Nawaz DFP IDD/USI informed participants about the process of salt iodisation and its packaging. Syed Bilal Murtaza USI Field Officer, Director Health Services Dr. Abdul Rasheed, DO Health Dr Asif Shahzad and other health department officials also addressed the training sessions and highlighted the importance of Iodine in daily diet.
