The Federal Capital witnessed alarming increase in the incidents of robbery, car theft and murder as the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police registered 11 robberies, five car thefts and three murder cases during the last week. According to data gathered by Business Recorder, Sabzi Mandi Police Station registered two cases each of car lifting and robbery during last week.

Similarly, two cases each of robbery and car lifting and a case of murder was reported to Kohsar Police Station last week. During the same period, Margalla Police Station registered two cases of robbery and a case of car jacking. Tarnol Police Station registered one case of robbery and a murder. Sihala Police Station registered two case of robbery, Margala Police Station registered two cases of robbery and a case of car lifting and Goral Police Station registered one case of robbery last week.

A senior police official said that poor check and balance of city police stations was one of the main reasons for the rising number of pending cases. The police high-ups only inquire about the cases relating to influential people from the Station House Officers (SHOs) and did not bother to question their subordinates regarding cases of ordinary people, he said. He said that due to poor monitoring of the police stations, the SHOs do not register FIR on the complaint of poor people.

He said Margalla, Kohsar, Shalimar and Aabpara police stations located are in the urban areas but crime rate is high in the jurisdiction of these police stations. "Poor performance of police is not only encouraging criminals but also giving a bad impression to the young generation, he said. The official said that lack of proper training and education of police investigation officers and the teams constituted for the investigation of different cases, is another reason of increase in crime rate of the town.
